Heredity gave dogs voices but there are steps to control most of the sounds that come from man's best friend. Dogs in Lake Five that bark at the sound of the family's doorbell or a knock on the door need to be taught a greeting ritual. It is their job to bark when an unknown person comes to your Lake Five door but you should train them that an "okay" from you means you have the situation under control and your protector can stop growling.
Another concern we hear from pet owners is the whining at objects such as a broom or tractors. These are all items a canine can learn to live with quietly. Running the property lines and barking at your Lake Five neighbors and their dogs is not acceptable bad dog behavior either. This "distance" barking can be corrected through training sometimes needing a mild zap collar so you can correct your canine from inside the house. This unacceptable dog behavior can be corrected in a short period of time.
Most importantly, you must remember that a dog's hearing is over two hundred times better than your hearing. He can hear his dog food being taken out of the car truck in the garage. He will respond with his voice. You just need to learn how to teach your dog when it's time to be quiet when they hear the proper command.
If your dog barks too much and this is an issue you would like to correct, please give Frank Allison, dog obedience trainer a call or click to set up an appointment. Frank would be happy to schedule a private session in your Lake Five home.
